My photography story
I grew up in Croydon, south London. As a child I always found it exciting when the photos came back from being developed. At some point I acquired a camera and as a teenager I would head out for a day with a fresh film in it and see what there was to record. I was often drawn to patterns and geometry. My landscape was that of tower blocks and offices with intermittent green spaces. Regular viewpoints were railway bridges and top floors of multi storey car parks. I'd go to Portobello Road and Kensington Market, Soho, Hyde Park. Sometimes I'd just get lost for the adventure.
I moved to Brighton and enjoyed photographic beach walks. I did a project called December 2000 where for that month I took a picture of the beach, sea and sky at the same place every day. I'd take my camera out on a Sunday morning taking snaps of the more urban side of town; broken furniture, Saturday night mishaps and lazy cats.
I spent a while in Manchester with the Chorlton Bars, Beer Gardens and Nightclubs. I lived in Liverpool while the Liverpool One was being built with a backdrop of cranes, cocktails and Superlambananas.
I got married there and we had our daughter. My husband came from a small town in East Yorkshire. We relocated there when our daughter was two, four weeks before our son was due. Eleven years on we are still here, five minutes from this incredible view. The thing about this quiet place is the sky and the sea. Having lived in cities all my life I had never experienced so much space. I have accumulated so many beautiful works of nature that I felt it only right that I share them with you.
